Off to Cape Town, South Africa

Today, we leave Greece headed for Cape Town, South Africa. Unfortunately our connection time via Cairo is not good but we will make the best of it. We have an 7 hrs layover in Cairo. Everyone slept in today so we should be well rested for the next segment of our journey.

I have loaded up the iPad minis with movies and shows, so we will see how the kids make out. Our flight is at 1:30 pm and we plan on leaving the hotel around 9:30 am. We will stop at Starbucks on the way which should get us to the airport around 10:30 am.

We won't arrive into Cape Town until Thursday afternoon around 2 pm.  Our flights will take us to Cairo and then onto the redeye from Cairo to Johannesburg.  Once we clear customs in Johannesburg, we switch airlines to South African Airlines onto Cape Town.

Our plane to Cairo - A321

In the Olympic lounge in Athens, Kobe Bryant is sponsored by Turkish Airlines! I guess he must be a frequent flyer...

On the taxi out of Athens, Jacob got to see a Russian Antonov Cargo Plane...Jacob had watched a special on this earlier in the week.

As we landed in Cairo, our route took us out west around the pyramids. The family was excited to see them from the air.

Two bigger pyramids and a smaller one near by!

Pictures of Cairo as we approach the airport, lots of sand!

We are all setup in the Egypt Airways Lounge for the long haul...only 7 more hrs to go...

Jacob enjoying a Pepperoni and Cheese Pizza in the Cairo, Airport!

The pizza was from NEGRONI's and a Fanta to wash it down.

Dad of course tried the local beer!

Our flight from Cario to Johannesburg was OK. Egypt Airlines used an A330-300 but it was older and most of the seats in business class had some sort of issues. I wasn't impressed with the service either. However, we are done with Egypt Airlines as we arrived in Johannesburg, SA around 8:00 AM.

We proceeded through customs and checked in for our South African Airways flight to Cape Town. We have about a 2 hrs wait in the SAA lounge before we board. So far no issues to report.

We did see a familiar restaurant name on our way to the lounge, however I don't think they are related.

Cheers....from South Africa!
