June 4th, 2013 - McLeod Family heads to LAX for the first segment of our trip.
Activities leading up to today!
1. We visited Passport Health to get our shots:
- Typhoid fever
- Yellow fever
- Tetanus

Abey was a little concerned since needles were involved but she survived the day. Everyone did great and the family left a little lighter in the pocket but better protected. (Dad was surprised by the cost of shots, it wasn't cheap...)
Passport Health provided us with a handbook about each country. The handbook provided information as to crime rates, tourist consulate information and area's to avoid while traveling in a country.
The kids enjoyed the video about how to apply bug spray in Africa, you have to apply after your shower, before you get dressed and then re-apply after you are dressed...those nasty misquotes!
We also learned about exercises to do on the plane...Jacob was doing the splits in the office. Once a goalie, always a goalie.
2. Tourist Visa's (China, Australia, Brazil)
In order to travel to these countries, we needed to apply for travel visa. The easiest was Australia which is done online.
I spent one day at the Brazilian Embassy in Atlanta, GA. After some changes to the forms, everything was approved.
I also spent a day in Houston at the Chinese Embassy. Again the application forms online didn't list all the information required, however it wasn't hard to gather the information. After returning the second time, everything was accepted and we got our Visas for China.
Obviously, Abey and Kristen convinced me that we needed new suite cases for the journey...
New Suite Cases - Check
New Sunglasses - Check
Sunscreen - Check
Bug Spray with high Deed Content - Check (required for Africa and Brazil)
So we leave Charleston @ 4 pm EST and arrive at LAX around 8 pm PST about 7 hrs. We will keep track of our travel statistics....
