Sao Paulo to Rio De Janeiro

Today we headed north to Rio for a few days! Jacob is very excited to finally see the statue, Christo Redentor in Angry Birds Rio! We leave the hotel around 3 pm and travel to Campinas - Viracopos Airport. The airport is about 1.5 hrs drive from the hotel.  I guess in Brazil, Rio and Sao Paulo have multiple airports, those that are considered international and those considered domestic similar to New York -  LGA is domestic, JFK is international and EWR is both however EWR is in New Jersey.

Sao Paulo - Airports
CHG - Congonhas Airport is on the south side of Sao Paulo (like LGA LaGuardia in New York)
VCP - Viracopos International Airport is North West of Sao Paulo (like EWR - Newark)
GRU - Guarulhos International Airport is North East of Sao Paulo (like JFK - Kennedy)

So Viracopos is like Newark airport, however if the VCP designation is used, then it's considered a domestic flight, if CPQ is used as the airport code, then it considered international.  I wish prior to booking tickets I had understood this relationship between airports, lesson learned.

Like in NYC, car service to these different airport vary considerably...so we have the cheapest airline tickets but the most expense car service rates....oh well!

Dad needed a new backpack prior to our flight because the zipper broke on his current one...so off to the mall we went. Dad was successful in finding a very similar backpack.

iPlace is the official Apple Retailer in Sao Paulo...looks like an Apple Store to me!

Lego Store in the mall, Jacob really liked the lego figures.

Jacob in the Viracopos Airport waiting for our flight to Rio!

As we board our flight, TAM A320...no gate bridge here!

Breakfast in the Marriott Lounge this morning! We are off to the beach next! People are already on the beach playing soccer and volleyball.  Kids are excited to go swimming in the ocean.

View from the pool deck at the JW Marriott!
