Cape Town - Great White Cage Diving

Well today was an early morning for everyone...4:30 am! Everyone was a little groggy but we got on the road for Kleinbaai Harbour, Gansbaai.  The Westin pointed us to Shark Lady Adventures! It was dark out when we left and it took about 2 hrs to get to Kleinbaai (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gansbaai - read about Dyer Island, Geyser Rock and Shark Alley). We had to cross several mountain passes and it was foggy and raining, but we made it on time. It was still dark out when we arrived at 7am.  The kids loved driving through the clouds.

We got registered, and of course paid our fee for the day. After a small breakfast, and the safety briefing, we walked down to the docks. I think everyone was a little surprised at how small our boat was! Unlike the boat in Australia, this boat was much smaller. The tour held 15 passengers and four crew members and the quarters where snug, but everyone was excited for the day ahead.

The captain told us it would take about 20 mins to get out to the perfect spot to see the "Great Whites", just of Geyser Rock, home to 60,000 Cape Fur Seals. The ocean was rolling pretty good today, we will see how many keep there cookies down!

Sun coming up this morning!

We anchored and the cage was put in the water...everyone was excited. The captain indicated it could take up to 20 min before the sharks pay us a visit, however it was only minutes and voila..

Looking back at the coast from our anchored position.

Kristen looks at everyone getting ready with Wet Suits...water temperature today 13oC or around 50oF...brrrrr!

As we are getting ready...here are a few shots of sharks jumping at the Tuna head in the water. Jacob was very impressed!

We had to put the camera's away and get ready!  Watch the video via the you tube link below...awesome!

Great White Shark Cage Diving Day

As we drove back to Cape Town...here are a few sites that we couldn't see this morning.

On our way back we got to see some unbelievable living quarters. Some very poor areas exist...here are some pictures of the houses!

We stopped at the University to see where President Obama spoke last night, this way Mr. McLeod!

We headed back to the brew house at the Wharf for dinner and watched the sunset from our rooms.

Good Night or Lalani Kahle! Happy Canada Day!
