Rio De Janeiro

Today we got up and went to breakfast, now it's off to the beach.  The Copacabana beach is one of the most famous beaches in the world. It is know of it's 4 km of white sandy beach. The beach plays host to millions of revelers during the annual New Year Eve celebrations. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copacabana_(Rio_de_Janeiro).

Morning walk along the beach. It wasn't long before they were swimming!

Jacob, here are my shoes...I going in!

Girls swimming in calm waters.

Abey and Kristen playing a game of jump the wave!

Fish Market with fresh fish, squid, stingrays! Smell not so hot!

Fort de Copacabana, you can see it from other pictures.

Jacob on Leblon Beach,  this beach is south of Copacabana beach. Today is the 2013 Rio Marathon. The route was along the beaches (http://riotimesonline.com/brazil-news/rio-daily/2013-rio-marathon-today/#). This is the second time we have been around a marathon, once in Cairns, AU and now in Rio. Is someone trying to tell me something?

We walked along the beach about 2 miles to get to the only open Starbucks before noon in Rio. Most Starbucks in Rio open at noon and close at 11 pm...unlike home. I guess in Rio the early bird does get the worm since nobody else is awake.

On the way back we walked through Osorio Park, which on Sunday's is a open market similar to Market Street in Charleston.

Kids got a fresh drink on the boardwalk...They picked the coconut from the tree and watched it getting opened.  Can't say they were as thrilled drinking it.

Jacob with Christo Redentor in the upper middle...

Now he's in the upper right! We will visit him in the morning!

View down Leblon

Beach from the rocks.

Private beach for condo owners just to the left.

Looking back towards the Marriott on Copacabana Beach...it is getting busy now.

Jumping in the wave, kids had a blast...now a little tired.

View looking south from the Marriott, see the Fort on the point.

Looking north from the Marriott.

The concierge sent the kids some special desserts tonight...each got a plate of personalized chocolate. The JW Marriott is a little dated but they made up with in class.

After dessert, we had to wear off some of the chocolate with a night time stroll on the beach.

Good Night from Rio!
